Not a good day. Honest one, but not a good one.
~5:15 AM — Woke up on time for once. Got about two hours of LF work done before getting ready.
~7:15 AM — Took a call on the way to the office. New office for a development summit — the space itself was incredible, genuinely blown away.
~8:00 AM — Riding my bike from the garage to the office, my phone fell out of my pocket into the bike basket. I forgot it was there, ran into an old teammate, got distracted joking around and looking at his new phone, and then realized mine was missing. Power-walked back (too self-conscious to actually run), found the spot where I'd left the bike — bike gone. Panicked, checked every bike around, went to security, then the front desk. By some miracle they had it. Phone and bike both fine in the end.
Also morning — A lot of stress before the summit even started. My manager tried to put together my promo packet by reaching out to my old manager with a one-hour deadline. Messiest promo prep I've ever been through. Genuinely feels like a joke at this point — it'll be a miracle if it goes anywhere.
Daytime — Spent the rest of the day at the summit. Noticed something about myself again: I want to be seen, but I'm also terrified of looking stupid, so I go quiet. And when I do talk, I get self-conscious enough that I sound dumber than I actually am. Can't quite untangle that one yet.
~5:30 PM — Happy hour after the summit wrapped.
~7 PM — Back at the hotel. Called my parents. Ate a lot of food.
Evening, honestly — I overate today. Around 3,300 calories against only 6,600 steps, and I didn't work out even though I could have. My actual goal right now is getting my health in check, so this stings. I don't know if it's a lack of accountability or just a bad day compounding, but I noticed myself already thinking "I'll just move calories around and eat less tomorrow" — and that's exactly the kind of thinking I'm trying to be honest with myself about. It doesn't actually fix anything. Today was kind of a train wreck, and I'd rather say that plainly than dress it up.
What I realized
- Wanting to be seen and being afraid of looking stupid are pulling me in opposite directions, and it's making me quieter and, ironically, worse at expressing myself when I do talk.
- A one-hour deadline is not how a promo packet should come together. This process has felt like a joke from the start.
- Bargaining with tomorrow's calories to excuse today's isn't honesty, it's a workaround. Noticing it happen in real time is at least something.
- A phone almost lost, a bike almost gone, both recovered — a reminder that panic and outcome aren't always correlated.
